Building a Strong Foundation
The Grammar School years are a time of discovery, growth, and the development of habits that will shape a lifetime of learning.
At Grace Academy, we seek to cultivate curiosity, strengthen foundational academic skills, and nurture a love for what is true, good, and beautiful. Through purposeful instruction, rich literature, and a distinctly Christian environment, students are encouraged to grow in both knowledge and character.
A Rich Academic Foundation
Our Grammar School curriculum emphasizes the knowledge and skills students need to become confident, capable learners. Students engage in:
English Language & Literature: Foundational reading skills, phonics, spelling, English grammar, handwriting, composition, and the study of rich literature that develops comprehension, imagination, and a love of reading.
Mathematics: Number sense, mathematical fluency, problem-solving, and the development of strong reasoning skills.
History & Geography: The study of significant people, places, and events that have shaped our world.
Science: Observation, exploration, and the study of God's creation.
Latin (Grades 3–6): Students begin formal Latin study in third grade, developing vocabulary and an understanding of language structure that strengthens their knowledge of English and prepares them for continued Latin study in the Upper School.
Bible & Christian Formation: Biblical knowledge, Scripture memory, and the application of Christian principles in everyday life.
Fine Arts & Physical Education: Opportunities in art, music, and physical education that encourage creativity, physical development, and an appreciation for beauty.
As students progress through the Grammar School, instruction builds upon previously learned material, helping them develop confidence, independence, and readiness for the next stage of their education.
Learning Beyond Academics
We believe the habits students develop are just as important as the knowledge they acquire.
Throughout the school day, teachers intentionally cultivate attentiveness, responsibility, kindness, perseverance, and respect for others. Classroom routines, relationships, chapel, and shared experiences provide opportunities for students to practice these virtues in meaningful ways.
Our desire is for children to experience the joy of learning while growing in their understanding of what it means to love God and serve others.
A Partnership Between School and Home
Grammar School students attend classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with home-learning days on Wednesday and Friday.
Our teachers introduce new material during classroom instruction, while parents reinforce learning at home through assigned practice, reading, and other activities. This collaborative approach provides consistency in academic instruction while allowing families to remain closely involved in their children's education.
For families seeking additional on-campus days, Extended Learning is available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Preparing for What Comes Next
By the end of sixth grade, our goal is for students to have a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, and the broader academic disciplines, along with the study habits, confidence, and growing independence needed for middle school.
Just as importantly, we want them to approach learning with curiosity, recognize the value of hard work, and understand that their gifts and abilities are opportunities to glorify God.
